I uploaded  some old drawings. I didn’t want to share something I held dear, because they get nonexclusive rights to anything uploaded on the site. Sharing is a good thing, but you probably won’t find me sharing my greatest creations or my girlfriend.

These drawings were done in 2005 or 2006 when I was studying in illustration and we had to come up with a fantasy creature. I actually like Herman (you can guess which one it is), but I’m sure many find that drawing vulgar and the humour juvenile (heh, Herman). Eventually I came up with the 1st Turtlehead drawing. At the time, he was called a humantle and his name was Philip Ino (say that fast, yes, juvenile). Also, he didn’t have a ankylosaurus tail, but as you can see I drew it in my sketch book and eventually added it.

There’s also a turtlehead with different heads, one of them being Ivan’s head, a friend of mine (oh, and Tszkin).

However, I’ve been (coloring) preparing (old) material for Salon des Rejetés 2, which I can show:

I’ve also been reading a lot. One of my favorites of the last few months is Laika. It was published in 2007 and won an Eisner award (best publication for teens). It is about the 1st living creature ever launched into outer space.

I bought the new edition of Same Difference (I still don’t know who I lent my 1st copy to). Having reread it, I now remember why I consider this one of my favorite comics ever. I love this comic so much that when I think of it there’s a mixture of admiration and envy, envy because I wish I could make something similar and as good. But I mostly feel admiration for Derek Kirk Kim (I also own 2 pages of the original art from the comic).

A few nights ago I finished Paul au parc, which is by far the best Paul book I’ve read. I’ve never been the biggest Paul fan. I’ve always thought it was alright, but I’d never list it among my favorites. Rabagliati’s work has never grabbed me like Joe Sacco’s work, or Alan Moore’s, or Derek Kirk Kim’s, … But with this Paul au parc, he now has an entry in my pantheon.
